WE CAN DANCE is a registered Texas non-profit established in 2022. It was founded by Dr. Samuel Vezenegho after he lost his sight in 2018, and learned first-hand along with the testimonies of others, about the daily challenges that blind people face. These include but not limited to social isolation, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, low self-confidence, lack of physical activity and high unemployment rate. Currently, WE CAN DANCE serves the residents of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex and neighboring cities by teaching recreational dance classes and hosting social events.
Our Vision
To build a world where perceived equality is natural, and disabled and able-bodied people respect each other’s inherent value, and unique skills, irrespective of perceived notions of “ability”, thus dismantling false notions of disability.
Our Mission
We teach blind and sighted people how to dance as a way to encourage interconnectedness between the two populations; The increased interaction with an expanded social network, will help blind people overcome social isolation and depression.
Core values
Diversity, Inclusion, Respect, Empathy, Care, and Trust
DANCE IN THE DARK
We offer a dance social and 30 minute foundational dance class on the first Saturday of each month from 2-5 pm at Envision Dallas, located at 4306 Capitol Ave, Dallas, TX 75204
Our interactive classes focus on social skills, foundational dance technique, and musicality. Dance classes are taught by local instructors with diverse backgrounds. Our teaching methodology is designed to accommodate dancers with visual impairment, as well as being gender inclusive (a person may choose to dance their preferred role, as a Lead or a Follow, regardless of their gender identity).
